Falkenberg Race 3: Jönsson Secures Victory in Tense Finale
In a gripping Race 3 at the Västkustloppet 2024, held at the Falkenberg Motorbana, Marcus Jönsson emerged victorious, making a decisive move in the final moments to clinch first place.
Stevan Petrovic began the race from pole position and maintained his lead through the first chicane. Meanwhile, Johan Leander lost some ground at the start and found himself in a tight battle for P2 with Marcus Jönsson. After Jönsson passed Leander, Leander then had to defend his position from Erlend Olsen in the opening laps.
Further back, Rasmus Hedberg and Ludvig Bäck engaged in a fierce battle for P6, closely followed by Jesper Fristedt and Torbjörn Hallenheim. On lap 3, Olsen successfully passed Leander after a thrilling side-by-side contest through several corners, taking P3.
Jönsson continued to pressure Petrovic throughout the race, waiting for an opportunity to capitalize on any mistakes. With just two minutes left on the clock, Jönsson made his move, overtaking Petrovic through the final corner to claim P1. Petrovic then had to defend hard to maintain second place as Olsen, who had superior speed, was pushing relentlessly from behind. Leander remained in close contention, ready to take advantage of any slip-up.
On the penultimate lap, an incident with a lapped car reshuffled the order, ultimately allowing Leander to secure P3, finishing behind Petrovic and race winner Jönsson. Erik Stillman experienced a technical failure, resulting in a DNF, while Gustav Emanuelsson was unable to start the race due to unresolved technical issues from Race 2.
This result makes it 12 different podium finishers out of 12 races this season so far, and also with Marcus Jönsson scoring P1 we now have 5 different race winners so far.
We will be back after a short summer break to compete at one of the best venues in Scandinavia at Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway, home of Radical Norway and AutoTech-Sport. Stay with us then and enjoy the action moving forward.
