After a thrilling opening weekend at Gelleråsen Arena, Radical Cup Scandinavia heads to the fast and flowing Ljungbyheds Motorbana for Round 2 of the 2025 season. This circuit has become something of a spiritual home for the championship, delivering dramatic racing year after year – and 2024 was no exception.
A quick look back at 2024…
Last year’s event drew over 7000 spectators and produced the closest finish in RCS history, with the top five drivers separated by just 1.9 seconds in Race 3. Erlend Juan Olsen was the star of Race 1, storming to victory in challenging conditions. Johan Leander grabbed his long-awaited first win in Race 2 after a tense battle, while Stevan Petrovic bounced back with a stunning final race victory, fending off Jesper Fristedt and Olsen in a race that went down to the wire.
Momentum from Round 1
Fast-forward to 2025 and the battle lines are already drawn. Stevan Petrovic arrives at Ljungbyhed as the early championship leader, following two wins and a third place in the Gelleråsen opener. While outright pace wasn’t always on his side, Petrovic delivered clinical drives and maximised every opportunity – a hallmark of a title contender.
Sebastian Schou stunned the paddock with an incredibly composed debut, securing double pole positions and finishing second in all three races. The rookie from Denmark will be keen to take that next step and challenge for a win this weekend.
RCR Sweden’s Johan Leander had a rollercoaster start to his campaign. After being disqualified from qualifying due to a technical infringement, he recovered heroically with back-to-back P4 finishes from the back of the grid, then sealed victory in Race 3. He returns to Ljungbyhed as one of the clear favourites, having already won here last season.
Elsewhere, Rasmus Hedberg quietly collected solid results, including a podium, and now sits fourth in the championship – a huge leap from his tricky debut at the same track just a year ago.
Midfield fireworks and ones to watch
Expect fierce battles in the midfield. Erik Stillman, Ludvig Bäck, and Morten Strömsted all showed strong pace at Gelleråsen and will be pushing to move up the order. Strömsted, in particular, impressed on his series debut, earning the “Driver of the Heat” award in Race 3.
Daniel Varverud’s Radical Cup Scandinavia debut was hampered by technical issues that prevented him from starting the races. However, he’s shown promising speed in testing and will be aiming to make a real impact at Ljungbyhed.
Predictions? Too early to call.
With two different winners from the first three races and a grid packed with talent, it’s impossible to pick a clear favourite. What’s certain is that Ljungbyhed never disappoints – and with so much still to play for in the championship, Round 2 could be another turning point in the 2025 season.
All the action kicks off Friday with testing, qualifying, and the first race of the weekend – free for all spectators. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness some of Scandinavia’s finest drivers battle it out on one of the most exciting tracks on the calendar.
