Radical Cup Scandinavia – Race 1 at Rudskogen
The opening race at Rudskogen for the Radical Cup Scandinavia delivered thrilling action right from the start, with pole-sitter Erlend Juan Olsen eventually emerging victorious after a fiercely contested race.
At the green light, it was Lars-Bertil Rantzow who seized the overall lead into Turn 1, capitalizing on a strong start that saw four cars going wide into the corner. Despite the close quarters, all drivers managed to navigate the turn without incident, showcasing the skill and sportsmanship of the field.
Rasmus Hedberg, however, had a tougher opening lap, dropping down several positions as the pack jostled for position. Meanwhile, Jørn Martin Aalerud made an impressive surge from P5 to P3 in the early stages, demonstrating his experience and racecraft.
The race saw its first incident when Lilo Elise Fyrileiv and Peter Gustafson made contact, resulting in Fyrileiv’s unfortunate retirement from her debut Radical Cup race. Gustafson continued, but had to retire later in the race.
As the race progressed, Olsen reclaimed P1 from Rantzow and began to build a significant gap, showcasing his superior pace. However, the safety car was deployed late in the race due to a spun car, compressing the field and setting up a tense final lap.
On the restart, Olsen executed perfectly, pulling away cleanly to secure the win in the PRO SR3 category, with Aalerud finishing strong in P2 and championship leader Stevan Petrovic rounding out the podium in P3.
In the Platinum Class, Lars-Bertil Rantzow not only claimed a dominant victory in his category but also finished P2 overall, a testament to his strong pace throughout the race.
The final lap also saw a spirited battle between Johan Leander and Rasmus Hedberg, with Leander making a decisive move to gain a position, adding to the excitement.
